| Glan Dwyryd, Rhyd-Sarn is a detached, 200 years old, white-washed stone cottage standing in the valley (A496) that runs below Llan Ffestiniog. A flight of slate steps takes you down to the front door. The conservatory at the back looks out at the junction of two rivers, a favourite haunt of a heron and a dipper. Recent reports tell us that otters have made their home there too. Framed by woodland, which all comes within the Snowdonia Reserve, this natural beauty creates a tranquil setting and stunning views. The garden is small but full of colour particularly in May. Excellent walks are to be had from the cottage and it provides a good base to explore the many attractions of the area. The best beach of the locality (25 miles by car) is that at Harlech which offers safe bathing and miles of golden sand, not to forget the best preserved medieval castle in the town. The famous village of Portmeirion (an Italian folly) is definitely worth a visit too. On rainy days visit the slate caverns in Blaneau Ffestiniog. The house is full of books, videos, games.
